John J. Kresl, MD, PhD, completed advanced medical educational and research training in the field of oncology as one of five National Institute of Health (N.I.H.) supported combined MD/PhD Fellows in Graduate Medical Science training in Molecular and Immunological Tumor Cell Biology, culminating in a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Northwestern University Graduate School, Evanston, Illinois. In addition to basic science training, Dr. Kresl simultaneously completed his clinical medical training, receiving a Medical Doctorate Degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Kresl’s post-graduate medical education training included the completion of a rotating internship in medicine and surgery at the Marshfield Clinic/St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Wisconsin. His post-graduate medical education specialty training included the completion of a comprehensive Radiation Oncology training program at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Kresl completed advanced Clinical Radiation Oncology training in the field of Brachytherapy at the Norwegian Radium Hospital, Oslo, Norway, and Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and CyberKnife Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) and Radiosurgery at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center, Pittsburg, PA. Dr. Kresl is Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology.
In addition to remaining active in Oncology research, which has led to two registered U.S. patents for novel methods of diagnosing and treating cancer, which is being further developed by Immtech Inc., a biotech company he co-founded, Dr. Kresl maintains an active clinical practice in radiation oncology for all tumor sites. He has an academic interest in and has developed additional expertise in the areas of Brain/Central Nervous System, Gastrointestinal, Head and Neck, and Lung malignancies. Dr. Kresl is/has been the principal investigator and co-investigator on clinical protocol investigations and has published over 100 abstracts, manuscripts, book chapters and textbooks related to the field of radiation oncology. He has been Visiting Professor at a number of medical centers in the USA and abroad and is frequently an invited lecturer at seminars throughout the world.
He serves on the Board of Directors of RADION, which he co-founded, and the CyberKnife Society as Treasurer from their inception.
Dr. Kresl is the Medical Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Banner Good Samaratin Medical Center and actively participates in national, regional and institutional Clinical Oncology Treatment Protocols that offer the newest and most advanced forms of treatment for tumors of all disease sites. Prior to joining Banner Good Samaratin Medical Center in 2009, he has been a managing and general partner of a large private practice group, Radiation Oncologists of Central Arizons (ROCA) and Co-Director of the CyberKnife Center at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix. Dr. Kresl has developed experience with and utilizes advanced modalities including Novalis TX Beam Shaped Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy, Tomotherapy Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Cyber Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Interstitial/ Intracavitary Brachytherapy, and Radioimmunotherapy for cancer patient care in addition to standard External Beam Radiation therapy.
